Career overview
David has over 10 years’ experience as a school counsellor and psychologist. He has worked as a school counsellor for the NSW Department of Education and has practiced as a psychologist in acute child, adolescent and adult mental health with NSW Health. David has also worked as consultant child psychologist in private practice settings.
Prior to working in the field of psychology, David enjoyed a successful 12-year career as a high school teacher.
This combination of teaching, school counselling, and psychology across the full range of settings enables David to have a unique experience of all areas of child and adolescent development, learning and mental health.
Areas of Specialty
David specialises in neuro-psychometric assessment, with expertise in the diagnosis of:
- Intellectual and related disabilities
- Language and Learning Disorders
- Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
David also has expertise providing psychology intervention and support for all children and adolescents. In addition, he works extensively with children and adolescents with neuro-developmental diagnoses, especially in the areas of mental health and behaviour difficulties.
David works with a range of mental health intervention models including cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), brief solution focused therapy (BSFT) and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT). He also utilises a range of intervention models to support parent management training including functional behaviour analysis (FBA), positive approaches to behaviour and the Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) model. David uses an attachment-based approach to behaviour and family therapy.
